Estevan Drag Racing Association – April 2011, New Track Update

The Estevan Drag Racing Association now holds a title for approximately 100 acres of property directly north of the Estevan Motor Speedway. This will be the Home for a Drag Race facility in southern Saskatchewan.  In order to move forward with this project, the Association has obtained the services of Mr. Ron Colson, of the firm Track Planning Associates, to assist in the planning and development of a New Drag Racing facility on this property.

Mr. Colson brings a wide range of experience including, track construction, knowledge of track requirements, track design, program planning, as well as a good working relationship with drag race sanctioning bodies with in North America. In earlier years, Ron drag raced the “Chi Town Hustler” funny  car with Austin Coil as crew chief. He also raced Roland Leong's “Hawaiian” funny car in the 1970’s. This may be familiar to some of you, whom may have been following drag Racing in those earlier years.

Mr. Colson visited Estevan on April 24 -28, 2011. He was in Estevan on a information gathering visit. During this time, Ron Colson, Dave Krahn (Track Development Coordinator) and Frosty Forrest (Association President) were able to visit the property and to look over the proposed track layout. This group also held meetings with various suppliers, contractors, soil experts and community organizations within the community. This was done in an effort to determine if products and expertise needed are available within the area. They also looked at the demographics involved in making a track successful within the community and surrounding area.

We are very happy to report that through Ron’s 3 day visit, that there is firm community support for this endeavour. All contacts were offering support in whatever way they can including products, equipment and expertise. Our preliminary analysis of the site indicates a good base that will work well and resist the problems associated with the deep frost here within Saskatchewan. Further to this, there will be further testing to reveal any hidden problem areas within the site. Our next step will be to prepare a business plan to present to potential sponsors and investors.

Based on all our efforts, we are confident that we can proceed with our plans to construct a new drag strip in southeast Saskatchewan.

We will keep you informed as new developments progress.

Thank you

Jim (Frosty) Forrest – EDRA President
